Three airports serve Byron Bay: Ballina Byron Gateway (closest, about 35 minutes), Gold Coast (about 50 minutes) and Brisbane (about 2 hours).
We deliver to town addresses, Wategos, Suffolk Park, Ewingsdale and the hinterland, including venues and holiday houses down unsealed driveways.
Town parking and traffic are particularly busy in peak weeks, so many guests arrange both arrival and departure transfers and explore central Byron on foot.
We also cover the addresses just outside town that many visitors actually stay at: Suffolk Park, Bangalow, Brunswick Heads, Ewingsdale and Broken Head.

Arrival times from each airport

All three corridors end the same way, on Ewingsdale Road into town, so the difference is the distance behind you. These are the driving times we plan around in normal conditions, before school holidays and event weekends are taken into account.

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK): 35 km, about 35 minutes via the Pacific Motorway and Ewingsdale Road.
Gold Coast Airport (OOL), Coolangatta: 55 km, about 50 minutes, crossing the border at Tweed Heads.
Brisbane Airport (BNE): 170 km, about 2 hours 5 minutes via the Gateway and Pacific motorways.
From October to April the Queensland clock at Gold Coast and Brisbane airports runs an hour behind Byron Bay, because Queensland does not observe daylight saving. We set pickup times from your flight, not the local clock.

Where we drop you in and around Byron

Byron Bay is a small town with a wide spread of accommodation, and the useful detail is usually the last two minutes of the journey rather than the first hour. We finish at the address, not at a rank or a corner.

Central town: Jonson Street, Lawson Street, Bay Street and the lanes behind them, including hotels with loading-zone-only frontage.
Beachside: Wategos, Little Wategos, Clarkes Beach and the Lighthouse Road addresses above town, including Raes on Wategos.
Resorts and venues: Elements of Byron on Bayshore Drive, Crystalbrook Byron on Broken Head Road and Fig Tree Restaurant at Ewingsdale.
Boutique stays in town: The Bower, Swell Hotel on Butler Street and The Sebel, a short walk from Main Beach.
Just out of town: Suffolk Park, Broken Head, Ewingsdale, Skinners Shoot, Coopers Shoot and Bangalow.

Peak weeks, and why most guests skip the hire car

Central Byron parking is metered, limited and genuinely difficult through the summer holidays, Easter and event weekends, and Ewingsdale Road slows in both directions at those times. Most of our guests walk or cycle once they are here, which is why a return transfer often works out easier and cheaper than a week of car hire, fuel and parking.

If your plans include the hinterland, Nimbin, Yamba or several wedding venues, a hire car earns its place. We will say so if you ask.

Weddings, groups and multi-vehicle days

Byron Bay is a wedding town, and guest movements are usually the part that unravels. We coordinate arrival transfers from all three airports, accommodation-to-venue runs and late returns as one plan with one point of contact, and we will tell you honestly when a day needs more than one vehicle.

Getting around once you are here

Central Byron is walkable end to end: the beach, Jonson Street, the markets and most restaurants sit within a few blocks, and the Cape Byron lighthouse walk starts from the edge of town. That is why so many visitors never move a car after they arrive.

For the trips that do need a vehicle, the hinterland villages, a winery afternoon, a day up the Tweed Coast, we can stay with you by the half or full day rather than leaving you to park. Point-to-point private transfers between towns work the same way.

Planning a departure from Byron Bay

Departures are planned backwards from your check-in window, not from the drive time. As a rule we leave Byron about two hours before a domestic departure from Ballina, around two and a half hours for Coolangatta, and three to three and a half hours for Brisbane, with more time in school holidays. Early international departures from Brisbane often mean a 3am to 5am pickup, with the fare for your selected collection time confirmed before you request your booking.
