Gold Coast Airport arrivals guide

Gold Coast Airport sits at Coolangatta, on the Queensland side of the border and a short walk end to end. That makes arrivals simple: one terminal building, domestic and international arrivals in the same place, and a driver who can be standing where you walk out. This is how we handle an arrival there.

One terminal, and where we meet you

Domestic and international arrivals both come out into the same landside area, so there is no guessing which building to look for. We wait inside near the arrivals doors with your name, help with the bags and walk you to the vehicle in the nearby pickup area rather than asking you to find a rank.

If you would rather be collected somewhere specific, tell us when you book and we will confirm the exact spot in your booking reply.

We watch the flight, not the schedule

Give us the flight number and we track it. If you land early we are there early; if you are delayed, held at customs or waiting on a bag, the vehicle waits. The fare does not change because your flight did.

International arrivals need a little more patience through border processing and baggage. That is allowed for in the plan, not billed afterwards.

The Queensland clock

From early October to early April, Queensland does not observe daylight saving while New South Wales does. Coolangatta runs an hour behind Byron Bay and Ballina for those months, which trips up plenty of arrivals and almost every early departure. We schedule against your flight number, so the clock difference is our problem rather than yours.

How long the drive south takes

The border crossing

Leaving the airport you cross into New South Wales within a couple of minutes at Tweed Heads. There is no checkpoint or paperwork, but the surrounding streets can be slow on a Friday afternoon or during Queensland school holidays. Once you are on the Pacific Motorway it is a straight run to the Ewingsdale exit for Byron Bay.

Late arrivals

Gold Coast takes flights well into the evening, and that is when the shuttle timetable and the taxi rank are least helpful. A pre-booked transfer is the same fixed fare at 11pm as at 11am, with your name on a sign and a car already waiting.
